Need Town Hall Readers Help On New Property Tax Assessments
Living in the Northern part of Georgia in a little area about 70 miles north of Atlanta called Lumpkin county. We were accustomed to low property taxes. That was until this year when the Chief County Appraiser along with the county commissioners decided to run up our Property Assessment. I think what has happened is we were just named 3rd in the country by US News and Report as a top retirement area. I also think that several of the county officials are in the real estate business. Wouldn’t that be a conflict of interest? The way things are currently structured is an a study was preformed to compare the county officials property to average citizens. County fathers overall average assessment increase was 21% wile the average citizen had an increase of 142%. At that rate the average retired citizen could not afford the additional taxes. So I need your help in trying to shut down the county server by e-mailing each county commissioner and the Chief County Appraiser. Each need about 1,000 e-mails a day for about 2 weeks. Please be nice in your e-mail. Say something like in fact copy and paste the below.
I noticed that you have raised your property tax appraisal. Now that you have done this you should be loosing your standing in US News and Report as a desirable community to retire in. What about the local retires and the big disconnect between your average assessment and the average assessment of your local citizen.
The e-mails I need you to send this to are as follows
steve.gooch@lumpkincounty.gov
john.raber@lumpkincounty.gov
Deborah.hutcheson@lumpkincounty.gov
clarence.stowers@lumpkincounty.gov
clarence.grindel@lumpkincounty.gov
stan.kelley@lumpkincounty.gov
jean.grizzle@lumpkincounty.gov
don.head@lumpkincounty.gov
I need the help of you folks from Town Hall .com as this battle must be won and the county server has to be become over worked. Also please visit the www.lumpkincounty.gov web site to help further slow it down. With out your help I am afraid the county fathers will not listen to the common citizen.
